The PLS Foundation is a registered 501c(3).

Q) How are funds gathered?

A) PLSF accrues funds through a variety of methods, which include but are not limited to: charitable donation, grant requests, corporate donation, and charity events.

Q) How do we fund our operations?

A) Our operational costs were initially funded through an initial no-interest loan from a private philanthropist. The loan will be repaid through a portion of the funds earned through the operation of PLSF events. Future operations will be run using funds that the Foundation’s operations have accrued. No private donation dollar will be used to repay this loan.

Q) Where does my donation dollar go?

A) 100% of every donated dollar received goes into a fund that will be used exclusively for scholarship awards. Please note that donations through services such as PayPal or credit card will result in a reduced accumulation due to the services’ processing fees. To avoid processing fees, please consider sending donations by check.

Q) How can I help?

A) If there are no positions available in any of the committees, you can still help! Please feel free to contact us with your interests in helping, and we can direct you to the proper person.

Q) How does this all work?

A) When a youth athlete is awarded at a Qualifying Event, this award is recorded for that youth athlete and when it comes time to redeem the scholarship, the youth athlete submits a scholarship request form, and the scholarship funds are then sent directly to the educational institute. A Merit Award is coming soon!

Q) What if I don’t go to college but I have scholarship funds in my name?

A) If a youth athlete decides against going to a higher educational institute, the funds that were earmarked for that athlete may be transferred to another charitable cause of that athlete’s choice, but the funds will be directly transferred, and not delivered to the youth athlete.

Q) Who decides what a qualifying event is?

A) The Board of Directors approves or disapproves events nominated by the Regional Scholastic Committee and the PLS Tournament Committee.

Q) Can I receive multiple scholarship awards?

A) YES! For this reason, it is best to start trying to build up your scholarship awards as early as possible. For example, if you are awarded a scholarship amount at a qualifying event when you are 12, and then again at 14, and finally once more at age 17, then you will have three scholarship awards waiting for you when you decide upon your higher education.

Q) Can I receive my scholarship awards as cash?

A) Unfortunately, no. Our qualification for exempt status under IRS Code 501(c)(3) dictates that the funds awarded must go toward higher education. However, a penny saved is a penny earned, so by having the scholarship award go toward your school tuition, you will have that much more money to buy your next semester’s text books.
